Graduation Reminders for Seniors and Parents

Dear Parent/Guardian of a Westside Senior:

It is hard to believe that graduation is right around the corner. The graduation committee at Westside wants to make sure you have pertinent information regarding graduation as well as senior events and deadlines.

  • March 2nd is the deadline to have the balance paid for graduation supplies from Brown’s Graduation in Jonesboro.

  • Senior and baby pictures must be submitted by March 6. None will be accepted after that deadline.

  • March 20 is the deadline to purchase a senior ad. This can be created online at www.yearbookforever.com, or you may contact Melissa Cureton at 870-336-8055 and mcureton@westsideschools.org.

  • Ferns can be ordered starting April 1 and up until April 30. Order forms will be available in the high school office. These will be a beautiful addition to the graduation ceremony and your home afterwards, as well as a way to commemorate your student’s special day. Ferns are the Kimberly variety. They will be $25 each and wrapped in Westside colors.

  • Mr. Brown will deliver the invitations to the school (if ordered through Brown’s Graduation) 4-6 weeks before graduation.

  • Parents of seniors will host the Senior Breakfast on May 1 in the high school library. If you would like to help with the breakfast, please contact Mikah Tilley at (870) 897-2505 and mikahtilley75@gmail.com.  Students and parents may arrive beginning at 7:15 AM.

  • Students will receive their cap and gown on May 1 immediately after the breakfast and before the Senior Walk. Parents/guardians are asked to go to the Fine Arts Center for the senior academic awards. Due to security and logistics, we ask that parents/guardians refrain from joining the senior walk.

  • May 1 is Westside High School’s Senior Academic Awards Ceremony. In addition, students will receive honor cords. This is a new addition to the awards ceremony.  There will be a reception in the high school library immediately following the awards ceremony. We hope that you can attend this ceremony and reception.

  • Please have students tell Mrs. Little of any scholarship that has been OFFERED to them.  This includes scholarships that have been offered and accepted.

  • Terry Smith will be taking pictures of graduates immediately after they receive their diploma on May 18. To preorder your pictures, go to the Red Entrance at First National Bank Arena before the graduation ceremony begins at 7:00. The cost of the pictures is $16 for 2-5x7s and 4-4x5s.

We look forward to celebrating your senior’s accomplishments and special events.

      Thank you,

      Westside High School Graduation Committee

Senior Composite Picture:

Seniors will have their composite picture made November 5th-6th.  The photo will be a headshot (chest to head) only. These photos will go on the wall for our class composite and in the yearbook if no other photo is submitted. We are requesting that all seniors wear something nice for their composite pictures so that our class will look sharp and elegant for years to come.  We ask that boys wear a collared shirt and girls wear a dress shirt, no t-shirts please. These pictures will be available for purchase, an order form will be sent with proofs.

Senior Composite Picture Dates:

Tuesday, November 5th (Last Names A-M)

Wednesday, November 6th (Last Names N-Z)

There is a $20 sitting fee for each senior. This fee covers the photographers time to take the photos and edit them. It also goes toward the cost of the composite. Checks must be made payable to Terry Smith. He will send home proofs and order forms a few weeks following composite session.

*Students may submit a senior photo (we will also have a section for baby photos) for the yearbook that meets the following requirements:

  • Must be a headshot from the chest up

  • Must be standing or sitting up (not laying down)

  • The senior model should be the only subject in the picture (no props or animals)

  • These should be submitted by email or the student may bring to be scanned. Please send wallet size.

  • All submitted photos will be subject to approval by the administration

  • Deadline to turn these in is Friday, January 31st (Senior Picture and Baby Picture)

  • If no senior photo is submitted, we will use the composite photo for the yearbook.

  • This photo WILL NOT be used in the composite picture that will hang in the hall.

Senior Ad Pages:

Deadline-Friday, February 28th (This is the deadline for photos and payment)

Prices:

¼ Page: $75 (2 pictures)

½ Page: $125 (4 pictures)

Full Page: $250 (10 pictures)

*You must submit your photos through email at the address listed above or you can attend a design session and bring photos in to be scanned. Follow Westside High School Yearbook on Facebook for design session dates. Do not send photos with your student.  Please make checks payable to Westside High School Yearbook.

*You can also submit them online (yearbookforever.com) with your payment and design it yourself!

Tips for a great Senior Ad Page:

  • Start gathering pictures from throughout the years. The number of pictures you need will depend on the size of the ad you purchase. Put pictures that need to be scanned in a ziplock bag for protection. Save electronic files in one folder or on a flash drive so they can be shared with us.

  • Decide on quotes, bible verses or messages you would like to dedicate to your senior.

  • Schedule Senior pictures soon if you have not already done so.

  • Look at past yearbooks for inspiration. These are available in the Yearbook office if needed.  Pinterest is also a great resource for senior page ideas!

The yearbook staff will schedule design sessions where parents can come in and scan pictures or collaborate on the page design. If you would like to schedule a time during the school day please contact me.
