Today in our intervention/enrichment time, Mrs. Crawley took students to the football field for a science lab. The students have been learning about the science of motion. Today’s lab was to measure the velocity and acceleration of a student running a 40 yard dash. They are trying to find out when during the run does the runner achieve maximum velocity.
Mrs. Ashlee Foster from Woodsprings Family Dentistry spoke to our students about the career field of dental hygiene today. We really appreciate her taking time out of her busy schedule to be here!

Today in Spanish class, students had to do a Hispanic heritage project where they had to research a Hispanic and bring a food dish from their origin or preference. Sonia Sotomayor was from Puerto Rico, so they did a Puerto Rican flan and empanadas.
Last week during Fast Friday, after studying the age of Exploration, 9th grade World History Classes Learned Like Pirates - their pirate names, how to talk like a pirate, and information on some very famous pirates!
Then Captain Small the Short Leg led upperclassmen on a similar voyage during RTI where those salty sea goers also worked out Davy Jones mystery.

WHS Student Zoey Goodwin was chosen to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards this past weekend in Little Rock.
This leadership development conference is for students in Interact clubs. Zoey had the opportunity to share about her experience at the Rotary Club meeting. Dylan Graham lead the Pledge of Allegiance to begin the meeting.

Westside Senior High Quiz Bowl started off their season with a strong showing at the Izard County Consolidated Invitational Tournament on Saturday.
The five players have never competed at the Senior High level before, but finished tied for second on the day. The tie-breaker resulted in a 3rd Place Trophy, and a promising start to the season.

Mr. Miller's U.S. History Classes recently completed a unit on the Dust Bowl, The Great Depression, & The New Deal. Their end-of-unit project allowed students to express their creativity with artwork, crafting, writing, and performances that detailed various aspects of the Great Depression. They even had an opportunity to research recipes from the time period and prepare unusual foods that Americans relied upon to get through the lean years- dishes such as vinegar pie, poor man's meal, and tomato -soup cake.
